Resources for Strategic Arts Education Planning
In 2022, California voters passed Proposition 28 which adds The Arts and Music in Schools Funding Guarantee and Accountability Act (AMS) to the California Education Code. As a stable annual funding source, AMS provides a means to supplement existing arts education programs and increase equitable access to fully staffed, sequential, standards-based arts education for all students at all grade levels. With new on-going funding, careful planning is more important than ever to ensure these funds are managed responsibly and in accordance with the law. The resources below are to help school districts develop strategic arts education plans including consulting with educators and communities to ensure that culturally relevant arts education is accessible to all.

- The Role CA County Offices of Education and Implications for Arts Education: In 2022, with support from the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation, SRI Education published a series of reports on arts education in California. The Role of California’s County Offices of Education and Implications for Arts Education provides an overview of the role COE’s play in arts education and links strategic arts education plans to success.
- Resources for Advocacy for Parents and Families: This collection of infographics can provide support when developing strategic arts education plans and working with schools and families to communicate the benefits of a standards-based arts education, advocate for critical components of strong arts education programs, and help community and school partners become familiar with the guiding documents for arts education instruction.
- Arts Education in Rural Counties: This page chronicles the work of a cohort of rural counties who developed strategic arts education plans in 2018-2020 with funding from the Stuart Foundation.
