Trauma Informed Art Strategies to Support Social Emotional Learning

Stanislaus County's Trauma Informed Arts Program

Stanislaus County Office of Education’s Amy Bultena, Director of the Arts, Region 6 Arts Lead recently published an article in the Spring Edition of The Journal of the Juvenile Court, Community, and Alternative School Administrators of California. Amy’s article begins on page 16, and emphasizes trauma as an important factor to recognize when providing social emotional support and learning in students. The article goes into depth on SCOE’s new monthly program for students in alternative school and juvenile justice settings that allows for social emotional learning through the use of trauma informed arts strategies.

County Offices of Education and others interested in adopting a program like this can learn more here. Amy’s expertise will also be featured in a new Creativity at the Core module  titled Creative Health and Wellbeing Through Visual Art: A Social-Emotional Approach to Learning, Grades UPK-12. Look for this module to be posted in August.
