A New Tradition
This year the California County Superintendents began a new tradition of featuring student artwork on the cover of their membership directory. The artist who created the featured piece, “My Family,” is Oswaldo Joan Arreola. He is now a 2nd grader at Mount Vernon Elementary School in the Lemon Grove School District (San Diego County). California County Superintendents Board President, Rich DuVarney, selected Oswaldo’s artwork from over 150 entries submitted to the 2024 CISC Leadership Symposium Student Arts Showcase. Oswaldo was issued an honorarium for his featured work. His teacher, Alyssa Navapanich, shared photos of Oswaldo and his mom picking up the honorarium check this summer. You can see that he was very excited. Because of this check, he opened his first bank account! Thank you to Alyssa for submitting Oswaldo’s work and these photos so we can all smile along with him.
